Math:

In this module, the students have begun comparing sets of numbers to determine which is greater than, less than or equal to the other. They have discovered that they need to consider the digit in the tens place to make this determination. However, if the digits in the tens place is the same, then number in the ones place would decide it. Today, they learned that when comparing numbers they must compare the number on the left to the number on the right.

Writer’s Workshop:

Your writers have been enjoying writing about their opinions on various topics, such as their favorite toys, summer vs. winter, and indoor recess vs outdoor recess. Today, they wrote about why they picked either Christmas or Halloween as a favorite holiday. This writing includes stating their opinion, writing 3 reasons to explain their opinion and a closing sentence. They are really enjoying this genre of writing and their writing shows that!

Spelling Words:

The words this week were eat, boy, girl, and was. There will be four new words on Monday.

Phonics:

This week your children continued working with consonants clusters. This week the focus was on clusters with the letter –l in them, such as, sl, fl, cl, etc.

Math:

The students ended this module by collecting information, which they learned is called data. The information was organized in graphs and tables and then the students interpreted the data and answered various questions about it.

Today, they did a great job sharing their learning about measurement and graphs in their end of module assessment!

Valentines:

Thank you all for sending in the valentines. Your little sweethearts will be passing them out next Friday, February 12^th!
