Wearing Layers:

CDC guidelines require that we keep classroom windows open at least an inch to ensure proper airflow in the classroom. Therefore, would you please make sure that your child wears a sweater/sweatshirt over their shirts so that if he/she gets chilly a sweater can be put on instead of a winter coat. Thanks so much for your help with this!

Spelling Words:

The new words this week were, do, for, will and jump.  Next Monday’s words will be the last new words until after our winter break. There will be 4 new words on the Monday following our return after the New Year.

Phonics:

This week we focused on the short i sound. The students participated in several activities that involved short –i chunks/rimes, such as –ip,   -ig and –it.

Math:

The students began working with a new strategy called the Take from 10 in which they break up a teen number into ten and some more and then subtract the other number from the 10. For example, 15-9, would be broken into 10 and 5 and the 9 would be subtracted from the 10. The Eureka Math Tips for Parents sheet I sent home yesterday explains it well and also includes some great activities you could do at home to support your child’s learning of this strategy.

Social Studies:

Around the world several different holidays are celebrated this month. Yesterday, your child began learning about Hanukkah. This holiday, which is celebrated by many people in our world, began last night at sundown and will end on Friday, December 18th.

Upcoming Events:

Wed 12/23 – Report cards go home to families

Thurs 12/24 – First Day of Holiday Vacation

Mon 01/04 – Return to school after vacation

                   Have a wonderful weekend!
